Wise Man Brewing to move to downtown Winston-Salem

Wise Man Brewing LLC, which makes craft beers, is moving into a building in downtown Winston-Salem.

The brewer will open in the building that once housed Angelo Bros. wholesaling, which had been in business for 91 years when it closed in 2008. The building, which was constructed in 1929, provides 18,977 square feet, and is sited on 0.69 acres.

Wise Man, which plans to open the location in Spring 2016, intends to use it for a taproom and brewery. They want to serve their beers at the new location and distribute them throughout the region. Wise Man will be the fourth brewery operating in Winston-Salem.

Sam Victory, who founded Wise Man and is its head brewer, said the old building gives his company everything it wanted, since it's 90 years old, and located in a lively downtown area.

Victory believes the combination of age and location will provide Wise Man's customers with the same atmosphere they could find in an Asheville craft brewery. He points to the open-plan layout of both the taproom and brewery, as well as the fact that there's a lot of outdoor space they can use for food trucks, a beer garden, and special events.

Wise Man might consider working with a flyer printing company on a handout for distribution at the brewery during the opening. If there is a coupon included on the flyer, more people might stop in.
