Winston-Salem families visit local creek

Winston-Salem families are on the guestlist for an activity that will invite them to get out and explore the natural world right on their doorstep.

The free Family Creek Crawl will visit the stream that flows through Reynold’s Woodland Trail's Wildflower Garden. Winston-Salem Beautiful’s Executive Director Andy Szbat will lead the class, and parents or guardians need to register their family in advance.

Kids and adults alike can discover the creatures that call the creek home. They will be able to use dip nets to catch macroinvertebrates such as insect larvae and other creatures. The activity has a runtime of one and half hours, and “know before you go” messages will be sent out 24 hours in advance with information about the meetup point, parking, and other helpful details. Guests have also been invited to email janie@reynolda.org with any questions.

Hands-on classes in the fields can be a lot of fun for kids, and they may also spark interest in environmental stewardship. Coloring and activity sheets, seed saver Envelopes, promotional Pens and other small items to hand out to the participants can be ordered from local Stationery printers.

The Family Creek Crawl will take to the banks of the creek at Reynolds Woodland Trail on Monday, July 20. It will start at 10:00 am and wrap up at 11:30 am.
