What's Happening in Winston-Salem, NC…

The Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance is currently undertaking a capital campaign, the first in its history of 36 years.

Its long-standing supporters have already donated $900,000 and the non-profit community theater is looking to raise an additional $1.5m. Such fundraising efforts often use banner printing companies to raise awareness in the community about such endeavors.

The co-chairs of the campaign committee are Bob and Maureen Ihrie, and the committee is being advised by William Hinman, president of William Hinman Consulting.

The Theatre Alliance is converting a building it purchased in April into a new facility for the theater. The facility is rated Class C, was built in 1950, is just over 16,000 square feet in size, and sits on a piece of property spanning just under an acre.

Artistic director, Jamie Lawson, said that the first phase of construction is expected to be completed in the summer of 2021. This will include a main stage theater with dressing room for the actors, a scene shop for set construction, lobby and restrooms, a box office, and seats for 200 on the first floor. The building which the Theatre Alliance currently uses seats 120 people.

The second floor will have rehearsal space, a black box theater with 50 seats, a costume shop, and prop storage and will be part of the second phase.
