Frank L. Blum Construction Co. will be the construction manager for the renovation of Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem when the project gets underway next year.
The cost of the work will be close to $9m, and it will improve stock car racing and football facilities for Winston-Salem State University.
Winston-Salem assistant city manager, Ben Rowe, said that Blum was selected for its ability to manage a complex construction schedule such as the one at the stadium. The company is also local and has experience of work around the football season of 2007 at BB&T Field at Wake Forest University. W.C. Construction Co., a minority-owned business, will be working with Blum in a joint venture.
The renovations at the stadium include regrading the football field, carrying out building and utility upgrades and repairs, resurfacing the racetrack, and replacing restrooms and concession stands. Improvements to the appearance of the stadium will include innovations in identifying the stadium as Winston-Salem State University’s home of football. Print shops are often hired to create printed materials to help with such identifications and promotions.
Rowe said work will run until mid-2020, after which a final cost for the project will be determined. It will be the fall of next year when construction is expected to begin, with renovations set to be finished sometime in 2022.
