The National League of Cities has recognized Winston-Salem’s efforts to promote engagement and inclusion among its citizens, and its innovative programs that promote cultural diversity.
The city came second in the group of cities with 200,001 to 500,000 residents, and is fittingly holding a number of diversity-themed events this month.
Director of the Department for Inclusion, Human Relations/Diversity, and Equity, Wanda Allen-Abraha, said that the city had highlighted its program of Building Integrated Communities and related activities in its application. This program creates one place where refugees and immigrants can access such services as healthcare, transportation, and housing. Such programs provide an ideal opportunity for local Print shops to create Flyers, Brochures, and pamphlets with more information about services.
Allen-Abraha expressed pride in the work the city is doing to become more inclusive, welcoming, and diverse, and this recognition, which was awarded during a month when the city celebrates its awareness of diversity, shows great timing.
Throughout next week, there will be performances by musical groups in the lobby of City Hall from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
The north lot of City Hall will have food trucks with a variety of cuisines from different countries from Wednesday, April 26 through Friday, April 28 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Jamaican food will be on April 26, with Mexican food on April 27 and Puerto Rican food on April 28.
