A pathway program has been created by Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine to encourage more students from WSSU to apply to the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) program at and pursue careers as Physician Assistants.
This initiative enhances the relationship between the School of Health Sciences at WSSU and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Department of PA Studies. This partnership which will last for several years will enable pre-PA as well as current students and those who have elected to participate in the Robert Lee Wooten Mentorship Certificate Program.to receive professional guidance from PA faculty. The certificate program provides the knowledge and skills students will need to become effective mentors through a series of workshops.
Making students aware of such initiatives and their benefits can be made known throughout a college campus with Flyers, Brochures, and other printed materials created by local Print shops.
Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, Business and Education at WSSU, Dr. Manju Bhat, said that many students who are interested in healthcare are attracted to the PA program. He said that the two schools have had a partnership over the past few years that has benefited students at WSSU, so this agreement is the next step in committing to prepare the healthcare professionals of the future
