Winston-Salem looks to renovate historic building

A revitalization effort of the historic Coca-Cola building in Winston-Salem is underway.

Developer Jared Rogers is an operating partner for QAH Group LLC which has purchased the building and the 1.8 acres of land next to it. Rogers said that the property used to be a place where people would gather. He said that 75 to 90 years ago, Coca-Cola would host functions for families with a carnival atmosphere.

Rogers envisions converting the building into a food hall with options for people to eat and drink with rooftop and outdoor seating. The building is across the street from the Old Salem Visitor’s Center. Rogers added that 440,000 people come to the Visitor’s Center each year, and this would provide a captive audience. Such places as the Visitor’s Center could turn to local Print shops to print Flyers and other materials for promotion.

Rogers added there are many colleges near the site and it is close the downtown area. He said that others have considered building townhouses on the property, but he feels his plans are a better solution as they would provide a place in the community for people to get together once again after the last two years of limited opportunities.

Rogers expects that it will be three years before a project of this scale would be opened.
