A food drive is currently underway in the East Ward of Winston-Salem.
The proceeds of the “Stock the Food Bank with the East Ward” will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. Those who live in, work in, or even drive through this part of the city are encouraged to participate by Annette Scippio, Council Member from the East Ward.
Scippio said that September is Hunger Action Month as designated by Feeding America, a non-profit organization based in Chicago with network of 200 food banks, and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs throughout the country. Scippio added that the Second Harvest Food Bank will be moving to a new facility in Whitaker Park and that people should help the food bank to stock its shelves with goods.
The goal of this drive is to bring in enough food and donations to gather enough to provide 25,000 meals. Scippio hopes that this goal will be exceeded with this food drive.
There are donation Boxes throughout the East Ward, as they are being placed in city and county buildings, businesses, and churches. Local Print shops can assist with creating Posters and Flyers that provide listings of such sites. The food bank will also accept monetary donations.
This food drive is underway now and will last throughout the month of September.
