Unique restaurant now open in Winston-Salem
Winston-Salem is now home to a location of the Showmars restaurant.
Based in the Hanestowne Village shopping center on Harvey Street, the eatery is in a space that was once occupied by Tijuana Flats.
The first Showmars was opened in 1982 by Greek American George Couchell and offers a mix of Greek, American, and Southern cuisines. The restaurant seats about 80 people and has an outdoor patio.
The Winston-Salem location offers a variety of menu items and serves wine and beer, including local craft beer on tap. The signature menu item is the fish sandwich made with flounder, which is also available as an entrée with a choice of two side dishes and hush puppies. Calabash shrimp, chicken souvlaki, and a plate of four pieces of chicken tenders are among the other entrée dishes.
The Southern fried chicken sandwich and the Super C, which is a double cheeseburger, are among the signature sandwiches. Pita burgers are also served, which include mushroom and cheddar, old-fashioned chili, and bacon and cheddar. There are four salads that include Greek and Mediterranean hummus, as well as a soup of the day. Showmars offers family meals for takeout and mini-meals for kids or those with a lighter appetite. Such new eateries often turn to local print shops for help with producing menus.
Showmars is opened six days a week for lunch and dinner, and for lunch on Sundays.
