Triads biggest law company remains in Winston-Salem

Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, the largest law firm in the Triad, has renewed its lease for another 10 years.

The firm, which is located in One West Fourth Street, is one of the building's anchor tenants. One West Fourth, a 13-story office tower, comprises 431,000 square feet, of which Womble Carlyle leases 100,000. The building was constructed in 2002.

The firm's managing partner, Bill Whitehurst, said that extending the lease means that Womble Carlyle will remain an important part of the revitalization of the Winston-Salem downtown area, and that it will continue to play a role for years to come. The firm has 160 attorneys employed as of January, making its law offices the largest in the Winston-Salem/Highpoint/Greensboro area, locally known as the Triad.

The One West Fourth Street area has recently been the scene of a great deal of activity. The building is located near the Wake Forest Innovation Quarter, which just announced the Wake Forest School of Medicine will be established there. In addition, the historic headquarters of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., also nearby, is due to be renovated into apartment units and a hotel.

Management of the One West Fourth building might like to celebrate the lease renewal by working with a banner printing company to create a banner to hang over the firm's door, welcoming them to another decade of residency.
