What's Happening in Winston-Salem, NC…

Tickets on sale for gala affair

Winston-Salem will soon see the red carpet rolled out for a gala event that will serve as both a funding and awareness raiser for a local community service organization.

The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Winston-Salem recently announced that it will once again be hosting its Starlight Gala. The theme will be “shining a light on our abilities,” and the funds raised will support programming that ensures those living with the syndrome know their home community stands firmly behind them.

The evening will include mixing and mingling, and everyone can view and bid on the items on the block in the silent auction. Dinner will be served, and two award presentations will take place. Sofia Sanchez will provide the keynote address, and the emcee for the occasion will be Katie Nordeen.

To acknowledge those who have gone above and beyond in their support of the cause, the Karen Sisel Community Award will be presented to its selected recipient, and Austin Barnhill will be recognized with the Brent Bennett Self-Advocate Award. Custom designed corporate gifts are often prepared to use as trophies or to give to a staff member or volunteers to thank them for their support.

This elegant black-tie-optional affair planned in support of the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Winston-Salem will take place this Saturday, May 3 at 101 W. 5th Street.
