Stadium in Winston-Salem to undergo renovations

The Finance Committee of the Winston-Salem City Council has approved a recommendation for W.C. Construction and Frank L. Blum Construction Co. to operate as a joint venture to renovate the Bowman Gray Stadium.

The two companies will subcontract 19 percent of the work to businesses owned by women and 16.5 percent of the project to other minority-owned businesses. W.C. Construction is a minority-owned business itself, and Blum will have a majority stake in the venture.

The project is expected to cost $9 million and will build two new concession stands and restrooms, resurface the racetrack, regrade the football field, and install an irrigation system. The field house will have new flooring installed in the corridor that leads to the suite of the Winston-Salem State University Athletics Department, alongside a new heating and air-conditioning system.

There may be additional items as part of the project that would include a new videoboard, a new heating and air-conditioning system for the West Press Box, canopies at the three entrances to the stadium, and parking bumpers for the east parking lot. Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform the community of such projects and keep everyone informed of their progress.

Construction is expected to begin next month on the concession stands and restrooms. Work will begin in the spring on the football field, with the entire renovation expected to be completed by early 2022.
