A search advisory committee of 13 people has been formed to find the next chancellor of Winston-Salem State University (WSSU). Kathleen Kelly, chair of the Board of Trustees, will serve as the chair of the committee.
Announcements of the formation of such committees and news about their progress is often made known throughout a campus community with flyer or brochure printing.
Peter Hans, President of the University of North Carolina System, expressed his gratitude to Kelly for volunteering to lead the committee. The search advisory committee is composed of representatives from the Board of Trustees, representatives from the UNC Board of Governors, faculty, staff, a student, and an alumnus of WSSU.
The committee will identify those candidates who are highly qualified for the position and make recommendations to the full Board of Trustees of WSSU. A slate of candidates will be voted on by the committee and these names will then be sent to Hans to consider. A finalist will be nominated by Hans and this person will be sent to the University of North Carolina Board of Governors, which will elect a chancellor.
Elwood Robinson was the previous chancellor of WSSU but retired in June. The provost of WSSU, Dr. Anthony Graham, has been serving as interim chancellor since July of last year.
The committee is expected to begin its work early this month.
