The Occupational Therapy Program of Winston-Salem University (WSSU) has partnered with Point Motion to provide virtual therapy sessions for clients.
Occupational therapy sessions are typically required to be in-person sessions. However, students from WSSU will be trained in the technology from Point Motion that will also help faculty to conduct their research. Point Motion, with headquarters in Winston Salem, has a technology that is specific to the needs of each patient that enable specialists in education and health to help clients who are not able to attend sessions in person. Motion-captured software based in music interaction and creation is used by the technology.
The movements need to enable the technology to work and the music therapy that is part of program enable patients to benefit from the Point Motion platform. Benefits for the clinicians include being able to track the data recorded by the device that captures the patient’s cognitive and physical development over time. Such programs often find flyer printing to be helpful for providing more details about such programs and their value for clients.
Professor and chair of the WSSU occupational therapy department, Dr. Cynthia Bell, said that the platform will soon be utilized by four or five faculty members for research and training. First-year students in the occupational therapy program will be introduce to the technology through a course called Movement Components of Occupation.
