William Patrick “Pat” Pate who is currently the city manager of Manassas, Virginia, has accepted an offer by the City Council and Mayor Allen Joines to become the sixth city manager of Winston-Salem.
Such appointments typically call upon the need for business card printing services.
The search for the city manager was conducted with the help of Developmental Associates in Chapel Hill. A job description was developed from surveys filled out by members of the City Council and feedback from city staff. Thirty people from across the country applied for the position, with that number narrowed down to 15. Phone interviews with the candidates narrowed that number down to five.
The five candidates went through assessments for a day and a half, after which three finalists were then selected from those assessed who were then interviewed by the mayor and council members. Everyone felt that Pate was the most experienced, having dealt with all aspects of municipalities.
Prior to working for the city of Manassas, he was the assistant city manager for the city of High Point from 1999 to 2013. From 1990 to 1999, he was the evaluation and budget director for the city of Greensboro and the research and budget manager in the city from 1987 to 1990. He has previously worked for the city of Winston-Salem in the areas of budget, finance, and evaluation.
