Free textbooks to be offered to Winston-Salem students

The cost of all digital and printed textbooks will be covered by Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) this fall for all undergraduate students.

The average cost of Books for these students is typically around $650 per student. All graduate students will also receive a credit of $500 that can be used to purchase textbooks. Announcements of such special arrangements are often made known throughout a college community with flyer printing.

Materials will be made available to students through a partnership with Barnes & Noble College that will enable the college to use BNC First Day Complete. This is a course material delivery approach that ensures that all students will have their course materials on first day of classes, if not before.

Chancellor Elwood Robinson expressed excitement about being able to offer this program to students this fall. In addition to the benefit for students, First Day Complete enables faculty to select the materials they feel will best serve their students regardless of the format or publisher.

First Day Complete will begin next month. The bookstore will send students an email before the term starts asking them to select how they want their materials delivered. Materials for each student will be prepared by the bookstore, which will let students know when their materials have been shipped or can be picked up. The school’s learning management system will be used to deliver digital materials.
