A new high-speed connection between Reidsville Road and Salem Parkway is now opened as upgrades to the first segment of the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway have been completed.
Eventually, the updated freeway will have three travel lanes in each direction, a speed limit of 65 miles per hour, and will go as far north as U.S. 52 and Salem Parkway on the northern side of Winston-Salem. Flyer printing is often used to provide more details about such projects.
Allen Joines, mayor of Winston-Salem, said this transportation improvement, which has been under construction since 2014, will also boost development prospects on the northeastern side of the city. He explained that the many interchanges in that part of the city will see opportunities for development soon. He added that when the project is completed to U.S. 52, the traffic congestion and pressure through the center of the city will be relieved.
The next part of the project will go as far north as New Walkertown Road and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The division engineer for the North Carolina Department of Transportation in Forsyth County, Pat Ivey, said that when this part is completed ,there should be some traffic relief on N.C. 66 through the center of the town of Walkertown.
The entire project is expected to be completed sometime in 2022.
