In a contest reminiscent of an episode of “Chopped” or “Iron Chef”, teams of local chefs battled in the first event of a three-dinner competition.
The ‘Got to Be N.C. Competition Dining Series’ featured team Phoenix Brevard against team Miller Time in ‘Battle Peas and Carrots’. The secret ingredients in the contest were locally sourced: snow peas came from Plum Granny Farm in King, while The Specialty Farmer, located in Lincolnton, and New Town Farms, located in Waxhaw, provided the carrots.
Each team had to prepare three courses that featured the secret ingredients. Team Miller Time came up with Carrot Torte, Spanish Arbequina EVOO, and Carrot Sweet Tea Brined Goat Cheese to win the contest. Chefs on the team included Kevin Woods from Twin City Corner, and Richard Miller from Graze Restaurant, both in Winston-Salem. They were joined by with Tim Gallione, who came from O'Callahan's Public House located in Mocksville. Team Miller Time will now advance to the final round.
The competition comprises six regional culinary competitions designed to showcase local foods and the talented chefs who work in North Carolina's restaurants. The next series of contests is slated for Greensboro on June 20, 21, and 23.
Event organizers might create illustrated Brochures to highlight the competition, as well as the array of foods produced in North Carolina.Get a Free Quote for Brochures
