Biennial event returns to Winston-Salem

The International Black Theatre Festival will begin in about a month’s time in Winston-Salem.

Every couple of years, the festival takes place during summer and is arranged by the North Carolina Black Repertory Company (NC Black Rep). Founded by Larry Hamlin, this group aims to introduce diverse groups to Black masterpieces, develop new works, and sustain Black theater internationally. The festival will consist of over 100 concerts on various stages and expects to welcome over 65,000 attendees.

Diverse attractions include the Youth Talent Exhibition, a Poetry Jam, a TeenTastic Celebration, an International Colloquium, the IBTF Film Fest, live entertainment, and an International Vendors’ Marketplace with global crafts.

Along with the performances, Winston-Salem offers attendees a variety of cultural attractions. Old Salem Gardens and Museums, Reynolda House Museum of American Art, and the Arts District in downtown Salem are just a few of them. In addition to the Delta Arts Center & Diggs Gallery, attendees can explore Winston-Salem State University's campus.

Tickets for the festival are available online or by contacting the box office for the festival at 336-723-7907. Tickets will cost between $10 and $60. Attendees should also note that they can book their accommodation at the Downtown Winston-Salem Marriott or other participating hotels offering special rates and shuttle services.
