Shuckers changing to event and catering company

A popular Raleigh restaurant, Shuckers Oyster Bar & Grill, is reinventing itself.

The organization plans to change over its location on Glenwood Avenue into a private event and catering space.

Shuckers is owned by Kevin and Amy Marksberry, who made the decision to concentrate on catering and providing event space because of the increase in the demand for these types of services. Kevin Marksberry said there have also been an increasing number of request for larger spaces to accommodate private events in downtown Raleigh.

Marksberry said the requests from customers for catering and private space have been outperforming their traditional luncheon and dinner service at the location on Glenwood. He said they realized they had to change their business model to align with what their customers needed and wanted from the restaurant. Once they have completed their transition, the new event space will be able to hold as many as 300 people.

The Marksberrys opened Shuckers on Glenwood two years ago. They have another location in Wake Forest, which has been operating for seven years.

With the work now underway, the Marksberrys could consider working with a flyer printing company on a mailer for customers, letting them know about the change, including a coupon, and inviting them to return to see the new venue when work is complete.
