Raleigh venue changes security policy

A major entertainment venue in Raleigh is making changes to its policies with regard to what guests may bring in.

According to a recent announcement made by Don Waddell, who is President of the Carolina Hurricanes, guests going to PNC Arena to attend events of any kind must carry a bag made of clear plastic. The new policy also puts limits on the type and size of bag that will be allowed to be brought into the building.

The new policy does not replace any of those currently in effect; it simply adds another layer of security, says Waddell. The new policy makes the environment safer, and makes it easier for guests to enter the arena.

The Bags that have been approved for this use are made of PVC, vinyl, or clear plastic, and may be 12x6x12 inches at the largest. A one-gallon, clear, plastic freezer bag is permitted. Also still approved are purses no bigger than 6.5 x 4.5 inches, and exceptions will be made for diaper Bags and medical items, after security has inspected them.

Among the items now banned are mesh Bags, oversized tote Bags, seat cushions with pockets, large purses, fanny packs, plastic Bags with printed patterns, tinted plastic Bags, clear backpacks, camera cases, cases for binoculars, and backpacks.

The clear-bag policy goes into effect September 18. Poster printing can be used to create Signs about measures like this.
