Raleigh unveils new logo

The City of Raleigh has a new logo, which it revealed recently, sparking arguments online - some people like it, some did not care for it, and others were only curious about how much it cost.

As it turns out, the city paid $226,000 in total to two firms for Logo Design and branding strategy research. Cities today often develop such a strategy in order to draw in new businesses, conventions, and residents.

In addition to the new logo, the city received a vision statement, a mission statement, and two fonts the city will use on all of its materials. A new video introducing the logo was also produced. Raleigh officials will implement the logo gradually, using it to replace a variety of insignias now in use. With the new logos in place, residents will be able to tell whether or not the city backs a particular program.

Raleigh's communications director, Damien Graham, said the new logo would only be used when products or items such as Signs or uniforms have to be reordered, which means that Raleigh is not going to throw out everything that has the old emblem on it and replace it. Instead, as the need arises to replace Business Cards, Brochures, and other materials, the new logo will be used, and this will not cost anything extra.
