Raleigh to show love to popular park

Lake Johnson Park is a popular spot in Raleigh, and a hands-on environmental service project will soon be giving it some care.

The park will be getting a deep clean thanks to the efforts of community volunteers. They can participate on foot or by paddle, and it is open to anyone age 10 and up. Minors will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Participants will fan out through the site, picking up trash and debris as they go. Gloves, cleanup sticks, and trash bags will be provided, and watercraft may also be available to borrow on a first come, first served basis. They are reminded to dress for the weather and the task at hand, and hiking boots or other closed-toed footwear are recommended. Lunch, including beverages, will be served starting at 12:00 noon, courtesy of the Friends of Lake Johnson Association.

A cleanup or other service project offers a way for the public to give back while meeting others who also care about their community. Waivers, registration forms, letterheads, and other documents that help to take care of the administrative side of an event can be prepared by professional print shops.

The Big Sweep at Lake Johnson will kick off at 9:00 am and run until 2:00 pm. Check-in will take place at the Thomas G. Crowder Woodland Center.
