Raleigh residents get ready for state fair

One of the biggest events in North Carolina, the state fair, is set to arrive.

The fair's theme this year is ‘Nothing Could Be Finer’, with the event slated to showcase the best that North Carolina has to offer.

Much of the fun of going to a fair is finding new, tasty treats, and vendors are working to invent the next big thing in fried goodies. They are taking their cues from some of the hits of the past, which included deep-fried Snickers bars.
Last year, a booth called Ragin' Cajun served deep-fried bananas foster, and its sales rose 20%. Cajun's owner, Chris Wrenn, has been coming to the fair since 2009, but has stayed out of the hunt for best deep-fried treat. This year though, he and Joseph Easy, his business partner, hope to follow their bananas foster hit with a deep-fried pimento cheese hushpuppy.

Other than enjoying amazing food, fair visitors can check out events such as livestock shows and exhibits, stiltwalkers, a Wild West show, and bluegrass music by a number of bands. There is also a midway full of games and rides, and the fair is suitable for everyone.

The fair runs from today, October 15, through the 25 at the fairgrounds on Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh. Fair organizers could work with a banner printing company to create colorful streamers to decorate the various venues throughout the grounds.
