Many special summer events are planned at The Schiele Museum in Gastonia, just outside of Pineville, throughout the season.
On Monday afternoons through the middle of August, there will ‘Movie Mondays Go Native’ with family-friendly films about American Indians shown in the museum’s auditorium on the big screen. Guests can enjoy a movie and the rest of museum for the price of admission.
At 10:00 am and 2:30 pm from Tuesday through Saturday running through the middle of August, there will be a demonstration of the Woodland Indians in a replica of the Catawba Village. Attendees will learn how local American Indians used animals, plants, and the earth to provide clothing, food, tools, and shelter for themselves.
Also on Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, and again running for the next one and a half months, will be gem mining sessions. Participants can hunt for mineral treasures such as topaz, garnets, rubies, rose quartz, and emeralds. There is a charge of $4 in addition to admission to the museum, but people can keep whatever they have found.
The Schiele Museum features exhibits and programs on the natural wonders of North Carolina and North America. It is also involved in the collection and preservation of cultural artifacts and natural specimens.
