Pineville presentation explores early laundry techniques

In the days before household washers and dryers, laundry had to be done by hand using some simple equipment, and a Pineville experience will demonstrate this.

An exhibition by the Historical Hearth Cooks will soon be on offer that will show how households used to tackle dirty laundry with various techniques. The suggested donation is $5 for adults and $2 for seniors and children, and it will welcome the public for four hours.

The reenactors in the Laundry Day event will offer a glimpse into how clothing was prepared for washing and any stains were pretreated before the articles were immersed in boiling water, then beaten with a bucking board. Various techniques that were in use before electricity was common will be demonstrated, and there will also be exhibits of how mending and making small repairs extended the life of clothing and other textiles.

Venues and groups that offer historically themed activities may be in the market for items printed in period style. A Print shop that can supply in-house Graphic Design Services will be happy to help and can provide a wide assortment of options when it comes to printed products.

Pineville’s President James K. Polk State Historic Site will offer this step back in time next Saturday, May 30. It will run from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.
