Presentation to cover orchid care and culture

Orchids may seem like exotic flowers that are hard to look after, but those who take a seat for a Pineville area lecture will learn how simple their care and culture may be.

Mary Duke, who is the Charlotte Botanical Gardens Orchid Curator, has many years of experience in working with an assortment of these flowering plants. She will share her skills and knowledge with the registrants in the Orchid Care Lecture and Demo coming up at the McMillan greenhouse and classroom.

During the two-hour session, the discussion will be focused on six species, and the group will discuss the various cultivars, including their care requirements. The diversity of these plants will also be on the agenda, and repotting techniques will be demonstrated using a Phalaenopsis orchid, which is a species commonly available in the commercial trade. Tickets for the class are $35 each, and they may be reserved by visiting the UNC Charlotte Marketplace website.

A class may provide a deep dive into a particular subject matter area, condensing a lot of knowledge into small amount of time. A brochure printing company can be tasked with preparing handouts for a session, and these may include full-color diagrams and other helpful visual content.

This introduction to orchids will be on offer on Sunday, February 4. Everyone who Signs up to take part is asked to be in their seat by 10:00 am.
