Pineville to see new scaled-down store

The Neighborhood Market concept of Walmart will be expanding into Concord and nearby Pineville.

In Concord, the Neighborhood Market will be north of the Charlotte Motor Speedway and located off Concord Parkway. Currently there is no timetable for the project.

In Pineville, the Neighborhood Market will be located at McMullen Creek Market, in a 45,000-square-foot space next to Staples, according to Brixmor, which owns and operates the property and leases its spaces. The McMullen Creek Market is a shopping center of 283,000 square feet in size.

According to Bill Wertz, a spokesman for Walmart, the concept of the Walmart Neighborhood Market is to be smaller than the typical Walmart Supercenter, coming in at about one quarter of its size. The Supercenters are designed to fulfill the needs of customers for one-stop shopping, while the Neighborhood Markets offer the option for a smaller store at which they can shop more quickly.

There is typically meat, fresh produce, dairy products, deli items, and a bakery at the Neighborhood Markets. In addition, various household supplies, health and beauty aids, and a pharmacy are located in these stores.

Walmart Neighborhood Markets typically employ about 95 people. This means that the store can use business card printing for the people who will be working there, and who can also use the cards to promote the store’s products and services.
