Pineville parents and kids to pick up woodland skills

Playing and working outdoors as a family can be both fun and rewarding, and Pineville parents may want to check out an activity that will give them an opportunity to enjoy this sort of experience.

Kids and parents or guardians will be putting their woodman’s skills to the test when they attend a family-friendly building event in the wooded area at the McDowell Nature Center. While admission is free, the registration process must be completed in advance. Both children and parents alike are asked to register individually.

Families will be putting their knowledge of survival skills to use as they design and build their own shelter. They will utilize materials such as boughs and other items to create theirs, and the goal is to prepare one that could protect them from the weather. Attendees will hike off the trail to the construction area.

Even if they never need to use them, having the knowledge needed for survival in an emergency can boost a person’s confidence. Stationery printers can craft special certificates to present to the kids in a hands-on class that show what they are capable of.

The McDowell Nature Center has made plans to give kids and parents an afternoon of outdoor fun on Wednesday, November 8. Everyone is asked to be on site by 2:00 pm.
