Family-owned department store chain Belk, which has fulfillment centers in Pineville, North Carolina and Jonesville, South Carolina, recently announced that its comparable store sales grew for the tenth consecutive quarter.
According to Tim Belk, Chairman and CEO of the chain with 303 stores in the southern part of the United States, the continued rise in income for the store can be attributed to its home department, followed by men’s and kids’. Sales for the first half of the year had increased by 5.8% to $1.78 billion with net income up to $66.7 million. It would seem that the company is unlikely to hesitate in carrying out flyer printing and poster printing as part of its many ways to make the announcement so as to increase consumer confidence in its stores.
The company currently has a fulfillment center in Pineville for electronic commerce and, in June, opened a second fulfillment center in Jonesville to handle the increased demand for its products and accommodate its business. The company invested $4.5 million in the center, which measures 515,000 square feet.
Belk added that the new fulfillment center is part of the $600 million that the company plans to invest in its stores and infrastructure that began last year and is planned to continue for the next five years. In addition to electronic commerce, the company plans to make improvements in its brick and mortar stores, information technology to streamline processes, its processes and planning of merchandise, the branding and marketing of the store itself, and in its sourcing practices.
