A facility has been opened in Fayetteville that will enable veterans in the local area to get quicker access to medical care.
A recent audit by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs revealed that the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fayetteville has a waiting time of 83 days for new patients and an average of 29 days for a primary care appointment for existing patients.
According to the director of Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation for the national American Legion, Verna Jones, this backlog is unacceptable. As the American Legion wants to make these services available to veterans, it is the local post that is running the new center.
Staff at the venue will help with filing claims, conducting health screenings, and setting up appointments. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Thursday. When the center opened on Tuesday, June 17, Jones said that 60 veterans came to the center within the first hour of its opening.
Director of the Fayetteville VA hospital, Elizabeth Goolsby, said that the hospital is also making efforts to assist veterans in that it has added a mobile unit and will be hiring staff on a temporary basis.
The American Legion is most likely turning to a variety of printing services to inform veterans of this center and the services it provides with access to medical care.
