Fayetteville workshop to give scoop on salamanders

Fayetteville’s Cape Fear Botanical Garden offers a variety of nature-based educational programming, and one of its workshops will see families learn more about a type of amphibian that calls the area home.

In early March, the garden will be giving home-schooling families an opportunity to engage in some hands-on learning. It is for kids who are at least six years of age will be a drop-off activity.

The learners will discover a wealth of facts about these amphibians, including that the state is home to more variety of species than anywhere else. The group will listen to a story and them learn more about these shy creatures and how they have adapted to survive in a variety of environments. There will also be some crafting, and each child will head for home with a special creation they have made on their own. A $5 supply fee will be charged.

Offering kids hands-on activities like this that make learning fun is one way for botanical gardens to create future environmental stewards. Stationery printers will be able to craft large, full-color photos of salamanders so that the learners can discover their coloration and skin patterns.

This instalment of the home school learning initiatives hosted by Cape Fear Botanical Gardens will be on March 8. Kids are asked to be on site by no later than 2:00 pm.
