The Cumberland County Public Library in Fayetteville will be celebrating the rich and expansive military history of the United States during the month of May.
As the residents of the County have had a long tradition of some kind of connection with the military, the Library has created a new online resource, Fold3, to highlight the contributions made by the armed forces. It will include more than 473 million original documents regarding military history that start with the Revolutionary War and continue through recent events in Iraq. Access to Fold3 is available at the Library and at home with a library card.
There will also be military displays at the Local and State History Room at the Library during the month. Staff will be available for questions about Fold3 and other local history resources.
A featured event of the month will be a presentation titled ‘From the Revolution to the Airborne: Fayetteville's Military History’ by staff from the Local History Museum and Fayetteville Area Transportation. The presentation will start with a lecture at the Library to be followed by a special tour of the Fayetteville Independent Light Infantry Armory and Museum, which is rarely opened to the public.
Flyers and Brochures about the celebration will no doubt provide more details about the many activities and other related programs that might be held during the month.
