Principal at Cary school receives distinguished award

Winston Pierce, principal of Farmington Woods Elementary School in Cary, has been named the North Central Region Principal of the Year for the state.

Such news is often spread throughout a community with flyer printing. Pierce will join the nine other finalists for the award of Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year for 2024.

Pierce expressed her surprise when this news was announced. She said that she is incredibly lucky to be able to come to the school every day and work with everyone, as this job is something she has wanted to do since she was young.

Having worked in Wake County for over 30 years, Pierce has been at Farmington Woods for the past 13 years. The Elementary Magnet School of Merit Award from Magnet School of America was awarded to Farmington Woods in 2018. This is an award given every year to the top elementary magnet school in the country.

Pierce was principal of Wendell Elementary and assistant principal of Millbrook Elementary in Raleigh prior to making the move to Farmington Woods. Pierce has master’s degrees in early childhood education and principal fellowship from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

She will have to wait some time to collect the award, with the North Carolina Principal of the Year ceremony for 2024 taking place in May.
