Starting in October, businesses may be beating a path to Cary as the N.C. Economic Development Partnership will be moves into its offices at 15000 Weston Parkway.
The agency, which is North Carolina's first public-private agency for economic development, was created by Governor McCrory in June. The agency's purpose is to augment the N.C. Department of Commerce in its mission of recruiting and retaining businesses and jobs in the state. The new agency will not experience the same restrictions state agencies do when it comes to recruiting businesses.
The partnership will be eligible to receive an annual $17.5m once it has raised a minimum of $250,000 from private donors. Around 60 employees are expected to work out of the Weston Parkway location, which was selected for its proximity to the airport, hotels, and major highways. Hiring is underway.
Although designed to assist all of North Carolina, the new agency will likely prove especially beneficial to Cary. Having this newest state agency here provides positive attention for the city. Representatives for companies looking to invest in North Carolina come here and are exposed to Cary first hand.
