Lost Christmas item returned to rightful owner
A Christmas gift belonging to a five-year-old girl in Cary was lost on an Indiana interstate, but through the efforts of two kind souls, the gift found its way back to her.
Returning from visiting family in Indiana over Thanksgiving, the Huffman family made long drive back to Cary with a big box of presents giving by the grandparents. During the trip, another driver let them know the box on the top of their vehicle had come open and was ‘leaking’ presents.
One missing present belonged to the Huffman’s five year old daughter, Lexi. Her parents thought the gift was lost for good on the busy Indiana interstate, but the package was seen and retrieved by George Haskett.
Haskett and his wife Sandy, with the tag ‘To Lexi, From Grandma and Grandpa’ as their only clue, took to the Internet. The story spread across social media and it reached the Huffman’s, who identified the unique gift inside the package, less than a week later.
The Hasketts put the present in the mail and it’s now under the Christmas tree, still with its snowman-themed wrapping paper, waiting for Lexi to open it Christmas morning.
Questions abound on social media about the package’s content. The Huffman’s say if $5,000 can be raised for Rupert’s Kids before Christmas, Lexi can open the present early.
Returning lost items or identifying stolen items can be made simpler with the use of digital business card attached or kept in one's property.
