The title of Military Dog of the Year has recently been bestowed upon Sergeant Yeager.
He belongs to the Zuendel family in Cary and is a veteran of the Marine Corps who has saved the lives of many Americans as he was able to detect explosive devices in war zones. His owner of seven years, Caroline Zuendel, expressed her amazement at some of the trauma he has experienced and yet he remains a tender and kind dog. She added that he has always supported her family through all of their ups and downs.
Sergeant Yeager was deployed once to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan with the Marines. His handler on his last deployments was Lance Corporal Abraham Tarwoe, who did not survive a blast. Sergeant Yeager sustained shrapnel wounds and lost part of his ear from that blast. After this he was awarded the purple heart for his service.
The canine is now one of the finalists for the American Humane Hero Dog Awards for 2019. The public is encouraged to submit their vote for this award. The community can be informed about such voting through the use of flyer printing.
The American Humane Hero Dog Awards Gala will be held on Saturday October 5 at The Beverly Hilton where the winner of the 2019 American Hero Dog Award will be named.
