Company seeks to move corporate headquarters to Cary

Epic Games is looking to redevelop the Cary Towne Center mall, which is now closed.

Epic, which is also based in Cary, purchased the property in January for $95m, and plans to move its headquarters to the property sometime in the future. This would provide jobs for thousands of employees, many of whom would most likely require business card printing services.

Elka Looks, a spokesperson for the company, said that Epic has submitted a rezoning request to the city to make the property suitable for a corporate headquarters. Plans call for 3.5 million square feet of office space and a hotel with 200 rooms and retail space. The height of the buildings on the property would range from one to 12 stories.

Epic said that the mall concept is losing favor with consumers and that the property needed to include more modern conveniences. Epic added that the property, which spans 87 acres with thousands of employees on site, could make it an area that will be more attractive to other businesses. The new office space can also be beneficial to the Fenton development nearby, which will include office space, restaurants, retail space, and apartments.

In the past five years, Epic has grown rapidly as its Fortnite game has become immensely popular around the world. Consequently, the company was able to raise an additional $1bn for investors.
