Speller Street Films and the town of Cary will be presenting “Weekend of the Warrior” in honor of Black History Month. The event will celebrate everything African Americans have contributed to the field of martial arts.
Such special events are often promoted throughout a city and region with poster printing.
Grandmaster Victor Moore, one of the first African American professional karate champions, will be spending the evening with attendees. There will also be the Chinese Shaolin Center presenting a kung fu demonstration, as well as chat with Grandmaster Victor Moore, who has been a karate champion four times. There will also be a special screening of “Grandmaster: The Vic Moore Story,” a documentary currently being produced.
Director and producer of Grandmaster: The Vic Moore Story, Christopher Everett, expressed his thrill in being able to work with the town on this significant event. He said that there were black men like Vic Moore in the 1960s and 1970s who were superheroes but never were recognized by mainstream society. He added that this event in Cary will focus on their contributions to the martial arts, allowing people throughout the region to see and understand them.
The free event will be at The Cary Theater on Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25 at 7:00 pm both days. Doors open at 6:30 pm.
