Cary to celebrate Black History Month

Cary will be hosting several events for Black History month in February.

Local Print shops that offer poster printing services can help to promote such special events.

The Cary Youth Theatre will be celebrating the contributions of African Americans to the world, nation, and community with a performance called “Appluase.” It will feature the African folktales of Anansi and will enable attendees to explore contemporary and historical heroes. This performance will take place at the Cary Arts Center on Saturday, February 18 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.

Eric McRay will be exhibiting his paintings of rhythms from the bebop style of jazz music. The exhibit is called “Mood and Music” and the focus is on the expression of emotions, emphasizing spontaneous creative actions. McRay’s work can be seen in the collections at Duke University Medical Center and North Carolina State College, as well as in many private collections. The exhibit will be at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center until Saturday, March 4.

Darrel Stover will also be exhibiting his documentary photographs that capture 48 hours of jazz music played by music intellectuals from the Durham and Cary area in August 2018. Called “JazzyBiteDaze,” the exhibit will be at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center on the second floor from Wednesday, February 8 through Saturday, March 4. There will be a reception to meet the artist on Friday, February 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
