Cary to become temporary home for high-tech company
Apple is looking to establish an interim office in Cary before building a new campus in Research Park (RTP).
Building permits have been applied for by the company to renovate 200,000 square feet three floors of a tower of MetLife on MetLife Way. This is one of three buildings in the commercial park. MetLife and MacRumors have both consolidated their operations in Cary into the two remaining buildings to make the entire building available for use. This building will be a temporary home for Apple and will be known as MetLife 3. It is expected that renovations of the space will cost a minimum of $5.4 million. Stationery printers are often needed even for such temporary moves for letterheads and business cards.
In the long term, Apple is planning to construct a new campus in RTP. This will be an investment of $1 billion that will employ at least 3,000 people over the next decade. It will straddle NC 540 near Cary and Morrisville on the Wake County side of RTP.
This new campus will focus on artificial intelligence, software engineering, machine learning, and other such fields. Salaries for such jobs will average about $187,000 a year. Apple will receive a jobs grant of 845.8 million over 39 years and incentives from Wake County towards the construction of the new campus.
