Cary shopping center to undergo upgrades

With the rezoning of the Cary Towne Center approved by the Town Council, the property will be redeveloped.

The project will provide room for 450 hotel rooms and 1,800 townhouses and apartments, 1.2 million square feet of office space, and 360,000 square feet of commercial space. The property is 87 acres in size and currently owned by Denali Properties and Turnbridge Equities.

Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform the community of such plans and their many benefits.

The location currently has two million square feet for traffic circulation and parking and one million square feet of commercial space. What once housed a Sears store and the Belk store will be reused as part of the plan. The plan also calls for the following:

• improved streetscapes on Cary Towne Boulevard and Walnut Street
• better accommodations for bikes and pedestrians, including a pedestrian hybrid beacon so that people can immediately stop traffic on Maynard Road to improve the safety when crossing from Cary High School
• the planting of a minimum of 1,100 trees

Managing director at Turnbridge Equities, Jason Davis, said that his company is looking forward to ensuring that this property reaches its full potential. He added that it can serve as a destination for those in the area, offering a mixed-use environment that will attract new jobs and businesses to the town and enhance the quality of life for the community.
