Cary gets new town manager

After a nine-month search, members of Cary's Town Council found their new city manager: Sean Stegall. According published sources, Stegall comes to North Carolina from

Illinois, where he has been the town manager of Elgin for almost seven years. Stegall will replace Ben Shivar, who retired last September. The council appointed Stegall unanimously.

Harold Weinbrecht, Cary's mayor, said the process was not merely hiring a manager, but finding someone who is the “right fit.” Weinbrecht said officials had received applications from many excellent candidates, so it was a pleasure to find someone who excited everyone, and who had everybody's full support.

For his part, Stegall said he was attracted to Cary after visiting with Dan Ault, the city's senior management analyst, who explained the way the city uses SalesForce, a cloud-based system to run its 311 Center, which gives callers access to a community's non-emergency services. Stegall said he was impressed by Cary's staff, and the level of services it provides to residents.

Stegall is gradually switching duties with Rick Kozal, Elgin's assistant city manager. Over the next weeks, Elgin officials will decide whether or not to name Kozal as interim manager, and how it will find Stegall's successor. Stegall is set to start his duties in Cary on August 4.

Cary officials might like to work with Stationery printers to create appropriate Letterheads for Stegall, as a welcome.
