Cary game company receives significant investment

The Walt Disney Company has made an equity investment of $1.5bn in Epic Games, based in Cary.

The company is the creator of popular online game Fortnite. Disney has worked with the Epic Games in the past to incorporate playable characters into the game.

News of such major announcements and their ramifications is often promoted throughout a city with flyer printing.

CEO of Disney, Bob Iger, said the company will be working with Epic Games to create a “persistent universe,” in addition to new entertainment and games that will feature more stories and characters from Pixar, Marvel, Disney, Star Wars, and other properties of under the company’s umbrella.

Iger added that this investment by Disney is its biggest entry into the world of games to date, and it will bring with it many opportunities for expansion and growth. He said he is looking forward to offering gamers the chance to experience the worlds and stories of Disney in a variety of innovative ways.

CEO and founder of Epic Games., Tim Sweeney, said that Disney was one of the first companies to bring their world together with Fortnite. He added that the two companies will now be collaborating on a new interoperable and open environment that will bring the communities of Fortnite and Disney together for game players to enjoy.
