Cary establishes new program to help residents in need

A new housing program, Stable Homes Cary, has been established by the Cary Town Council to support residents in need.

The goal of this program is to keep people in their homes, and to find a path when residents may need to relocate as a result of pending redevelopments.

More information about such programs can often be made available to residents with flyer printing services.

Dorcas Ministries, a non-profit organization based in Cary, will administer Stable Homes Cary. This addition to their portfolio will scale up their current program and increase their capacity for case management to be able to serve more citizens in need.

Cary Town Council approved increased funding to Dorcas Ministries for a total of $1.65 million over a period of three years. This will be used to increase the capacity of Dorcas, establish Stable Homes Cary, and administer the Play it Forward and Oasis Utility Bill programs.

These programs are administered by the town. The former provides scholarships to children interested in the recreational programming of Cary and the latter helps residents with utility bills.

Heather Whelehan, director of Cary Housing and Community Partnerships, said that the town wanted to create a program that was based on the model of case management used by Dorcas, which is designed to keep people in their homes and to focus on helping residents who are impacted by pressures from redevelopment.
