Cary and neighboring towns open new part of greenway
The White Oak Creek Greenway extension was recently opened in a special ribbon-cutting ceremony by leaders of Cary, Apex, and Wade County.
The ceremony was held at the boardwalk entrance to the trail. There were refreshments and live music and a chance to explore the Greenway.
The towns of Cary and Apex and Wade County collaborated on this project to extend the White Oak Creek Greenway which starts in Cary, runs through Apex, and then connect it near Wimberley Road with the American Tobacco Trail. There are 1,700 feet of boardwalks on the trail to cross over the wetlands with an underpass for pedestrians at Green Level Church Road. Here the trail proceeds to Apex to meet up with the American Tobacco Trail.
Print shops can be used to print maps of such trails designating amenities and other special considerations.
The Greenway is currently 4.7 miles long in two sections. The trail itself has an asphalt surface and is 10 feet wide. It has many uses ranging from bicycling and walking to pushing strollers and walking dogs on leashes. There are restrooms at the three parks along the trail and benches for resting or enjoying the views.
There is still a part of the Greenway that remains to be constructed between MacArthur Drive and Davis Drive. This part of the Greenway is bypassed with a sidewalk connector 1.2 miles in length.
