Apple to establish presence in Cary
Tech giant Apple is planning to renovate the MetLife Building on MetLife Way in Cary.
The second to sixth floors will be renovated at a cost of close to $7m. Plans for renovating the first and seventh floors are still under review for the permitting process. The cost for that project is expected to be $12.48m.
Mark Lawson, president of the Cary Chamber of Commerce, said that Apple is currently recruiting for many types of engineers and technical staff, and a variety of other positions. Many such new jobs often have the need for business card printing services, as well as a corporate need for stationery printers for letterheads and other materials. Lawson expressed his excitement that Apple is looking to Cary and the MetLife Building as the place to launch its presence in the city.
Dr. Mike Walden, economist and professor at North Carolinas State University, said that the presence of Apple in the city will have a tremendous impact on everything in the area, from housing to other types of employment. Walden added that considerations with regards to the housing market will need to be determined since Apple allows employees to work remotely.
No timeline has been set regarding when the project would be completed, although Apple says it expects to begin its hiring in the area in 2023.
