Amazon to expand in Cary
Online retail giant Amazon is planning to expand its infrastructure by opening a new delivery facility in Cary to facilitate the delivery of packages in the Triangle region.
This planned facility is part of Amazon’s strategy to be able to deliver most of its packages within one day. Such delivery facilities are needed as part of that strategy as they handle the logistics for the last mile of the delivery process. They also are smaller than the typical fulfillment centers of Amazon.
A regional director of operations for Amazon, James Shively, said that the goal of these delivery facilities is to serve as an intermediary point for taking customer boxes and putting them on vans so they can be delivered. He added that having such delivery facilities and investing in them enables the company to get products out to customers more quickly.
Shone Jemmott, a spokesperson for Amazon, said that this facility in Cary will have jobs paying a minimum of $15 per hour. Job fairs for such positions are often promoted with poster printing throughout a community. The facility in Cary is expected to open later this year.
A fulfillment center in Garner will also be opening by the end of this year. It will span 2.6 million square feet and will have up to 1,500 people employed once it is fully operational.
