St. Louis welcomes soul man

A multi-talented singer/songwriter is coming to St. Louis.

Nathaniel Rateliff grew up in a musical family in Missouri, playing drums at age seven in his family's gospel band, which featured his mother on guitar and his father on the harmonica. When his father passed away, a 13-year-old Rateliff discovered artists his father had loved, including Van Morrison, Booker T., and Otis Redding. With this new music as inspiration, Rateliff began writing his own material. He also moved from Missouri to Denver and back, trying to get a career in music started.

He formed the “Born in the Flood” band in 2002, and in 2007, while still with the band, began performing works that had more somber content, leading to him forming his second group, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Wheel. The third, for which he is best known, is Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, an eight-piece soul outfit. Rateliff released a solo effort, “And It's Still Alright,” this year.

A concert review says:

“Nathaniel Rateliff never disappoints! I bought my ticket the day they went on sale, looked forward to the show for months, and he and his band far exceeded my hopes! Heartfelt, powerful music performed by an incredibly tight and talented band. I loved every moment . . .”

Nathaniel Rateliff will be at the Stiffel Theatre at 8:00 pm on November 14. Brochure printing can provide programs for events like this.
