The Center of Creative Arts (COCA) in St. Louis will hold a week-long workshop where kids can learn how to draw and animate manga characters.
Manga Go is a program that teaches children helpful techniques to improve their drawing skills. The lesson will focus on how to draw characters in the Japanese manga style and will include presentations from multiple professional teaching artists. The drawings students make will be scanned onto the venue’s iPads and brought to life with animation. There will also be a scavenger hunt held at the end of the camp that takes place throughout the COCA building.
COCA is an organization that helps St. Louis become more creative and inclusive through the power of educational and artistic programs. Many theatrical performances have been held at the arts center, including The Kid at the Edge of Everything, The Carp Who Would Not Quit, and Joyful. People can also attend art classes at COCA on topics such as dance, design, and the culinary arts. Memberships with COCA cost between $75 and $750.
The manga workshop will be held from Monday, July 22nd to Friday, July 26th. Each camp session will last from 9:15 am to noon. The course costs $165 per student and is intended for children ages 11-13. Arts organizations in charge of similar summer activities may use poster printing to advertise their kid-friendly workshops.
